What the zones show

Data and definitions

Depth follows the published source: behind the line, 0–9, 10–19, 20–29 and 30+ air yards. Zones describe depth and direction, not exact pass locations. Receiver zones are only published with at least two targets. Distribution uses all player targets as its denominator; omitted zones mean the field may not sum to 100%. The league distribution pools the selected season’s eligible receiver targets. Defense comparisons use all passing attempts, not only receiver targets.

Stats and affiliations come from the selected season’s published play-by-play files. Empty zones mean no published sample. An asterisk marks fewer than 10 targets, carries or attempts. The stadium is an illustrated NFL venue.
